In our efforts to provide our pharmaceutical clients with names that have a high potential for clearing full trademark clearance procedures by their trademark counsel as well as the FDA's Labeling Review Process, Lexicon has developed Acoustica, a software program that compares the phonetic similarity of a name with the names in a pre-existing database such as the US Federal Trademark database. The Acoustica program is a highly developed algorithm built to identify sound similarites between words. It takes into consideration a multitude of phonetic factors including stress, word length, and the prominence of each sound in a word.
